5/04/2012: Dogs and Students Galore!
Wow, what a time we have been having here at MIRA USA. Last week end was the third annual Dining in the Dark dinner in Pinehurst AND the student assessment for the 2012 candidates for MIRA guide dogs. We had students and dogs everywhere. Eric St. Pierre, the Founder of MIRA Canada ( and my dear friend- I love him) came from Canada with four wonderful guide dogs in tow and a really nice assistant trainer, Yan McDermott. ( I love him, too- and so did the ladies in the MIRA office!) On Saturday night at Dining in the Dark at the Pinehurst Members Club MIRA made history with the gathering of all six members of the MIRA Class of 2011 with their guide dogs! Think of it- right here in the Sandills we had the opportunity to witness the first group of students between the ages of 11-17 to have ever received guide dogs. Ever! Wow, I just want to bark when I think about it (Bob said he wouldn’t mind as long as I use my inside voice) By the end of the week end we welcomed four new candidates for MIRA dogs: two from Pennsylvania, one from Michigan and one from Fayetteville, NC.
We are so proud of everyone, and very thankful to all of the wonderful people who give so generously to MIRA so that we can pair these wonderful MIRA dogs with deserving students. God bless you all!
