5/26: I Love Cook-Outs!
MIRA held their annual volunteer thank you barbecue tonight at my house. I got the impression the volunteers had fun. I had a ball! First, I jumped into the pond just before everyone arrived. Bob wasn’t very happy with me, but it was delightful to get cooled down and ready for some great grillin’. I smelled good, too, if I must say so myself.
The guests started arriving and my friend, Rick Allard, showed up to man the grill. I made sure I cruised the crowd to help anyone who dropped anything- you know, a piece of hotdog here, a chunk of chicken, there. As I am sure you are well aware by now, I don’t usually get even the smallest morsel of food from anyone outside of meal times. It’s a bore, frankly. But cook-outs…wow…they are the motherlode of food fests for us canines. If there is a doggie heaven, it’s going to be stocked with burgers, franks, and grilled chicken!
Bob made a little speech before dinner. Bob is always making speeches, so I have learned to time them and either stand by his side and look appropriately regal and interested, or, if he sounds like he is getting into it, I just quietly stretch out and snatch a little shuteye. It’s not a bad job, either way, because I hear him mention my name a lot, and that makes me happy.
In any case, it was a really fun evening. Everybody said they had a great time, and they must have because they stayed pretty late. I was even getting a little tired. Still, it was very nice to see all of my MIRA friends and thank them for their hard work.
I love cookouts, and I really love our volunteers.
XOXO,
Devon
